Worldwide PaulaDay

I do not understand why every one in the world is not off today. Do they not understand the global importance that is PaulaDay? :)

*(exciting update later of how the local PaulaDay celebrations were observed)*

Wanna eat your braaaains...

Going to eat lunch with Nathan at school is always a fun adventure. We usually sit with different kids each time and they usually always want to show off for the cool mom who comes to eat with them sometimes. Today was no different.

Today, we had Dustin showing off for us how he can suck his brain out thru a straw. This was quite funny to everyone and I just laughed harder at the pucker mark on his forehead that was going to look like a hickey in a few hours. Baaad cool momma.

Breezy afternoon

A storm that produced a few tornadoes passed thru town today, getting within a coupla miles from where I lived in High School. It always smells the best after a good rain, and today there were even some neat clouds that you could see just before sunset.

It's always fun to watch tornadic storms with people that didn't grow up here in Oklahoma. They never understand why anyone would want to go out and watch tornadoes pass by.

This is not the TOG you are looking for....

Just an FYI for ya. If you are looking for my Amazon wishlist, this is NOT it. 'Course that TOG didn't specify a mailing address so feel free to send any of those directly to me. ;)

And if you really want to see it, here is MY list.

*I was reminded of another wishlist that I had talked about before.

Congratulations!

Congrats go out to my friend, and favorite stalker, Brent for passing his Bar Exam making him officially an Esq. in Texas.

'Course, I know how much he studied, and I must say, Texas Bar Exams must be pretty damn easy. :P

Confusion

Okay, I stayed up way too late for what I knew would not be a definitive conclusion, but a foregone one instead. I knew the election would be close, but, I had hoped it would be distinctly in Kerry's favor.
This is where I need some help. I do not understand how George Bush can be re-elected, not procedurally, but idealogically. I can kind of understand not wanting to change leadership in the middle of a conflict. However, I believe that we shouldn't be in this conflict in the first place and that the multitude of reasons why have been laid bare. That said, I will not go into a litany of why he should not be re-elected.
I know that my vote for Kerry was an effort in futility in this consistantly Red state, but I voted the way that I personally felt was the best way, as did more than half of the 120million people who cast a ballot yesterday. But, I sincerely need someone to explain why GWB is the best man for the job of President of the United States and I need better reasoning than a 7 year old's logic because I just can't wrap my brain around it.

Election Day!

Today's experience to vote for President was much easier than last time. This time there were far more people out to vote than then. At my regular polling place, instead of only 4-5 privacy voting stands that are normally out for elections, there were 22 and they had opened up additional space. All 22 were full when I was there, which really encouraged me, as Oklahoma questions that were important for the state were also being decided today.
One of these questions was whether or not Oklahoma should join 44 other states and have a lottery benefitting education. In the Bible belt, this is a tricky proposition what with it having the taint of gambling, and having failed before. This time, tho, I think that many more people were open to it, with the Governor actually backing it and putting it on the most high prfile ballot of the year, instead of hiding it on a low voter turnout election ballot like last time around.
Of course, there are always opponents. This time there was a group called "Oklahomans for Good Government" who put out a stupid ad designed to dissuade people from voting for the lottery about a gambling mouse. What the....? Because, really, mice who go thru alleys to get to church can't be trusted to make their own decisions. Somehow I don't really think that will be quite effective enough today.
But, as for the Presidency, I hate to say, but the polls seem too close to call it. And the U.S. residents aren't the only ones closely watching this election. I am right now chatting in a room with 125 people from all over the world in it, all discussing the incoming returns. I cracked up at the description of all this from a friend of mine in Australia:

"You do realise that the rest of the world is looking at america right now in the same way people in a shopping centre look at a small child sitting in the middle of an aisle, playing merrily with it's own shit? we're all hoping it's mother comes along to give it an almighty smack. I mean, australia's not much better, but we just pick our nose and eat it."
I doubt we will have an answer to this tonight, just like in 2000, but hopefully some lessons were learned to make all of the challenges a little bit easier.
