Happy Halloween!
Unless, of course, you live in Oklahoma and several other states in the Bible Belt that celebrated All Hallow's Eve last night, because as we all know, Christians and Pagans cannot share the same day, oh no no no. So, instead, we got to go out on that one night each year that you get to see what all of your neighbor's living rooms look like and ask for candy on a non-threatening Saturday night (which actually worked out great, since it was a beautiful night and today has been all rainy).
Nate had a great night. He got to be Batman Beyond (with 3D muscles - heh), that he and his dad picked out this year. We went around to our street and he was getting loaded up and when I asked if he wanted to go home and pass out candy (which he loves to do) he said, "Nah, let's keep going", so we went around to a big curve of the street and his bucket got so full his handle broke. The boy is not suffering for candy, that's for sure. He also made a real point to say "Thank You" at each house and he said to me, "Don't worry, Momma, I will make sure and say it all that time." What a polite little beggar. :)
And after we got back, thanks to the magic of video chat, he was able to show his loot to his dad, letting his dad enjoy a bit of the night, too.
But, the best part of the night for me, behind listening to the hoots and giggles of the kiddo, was when at the end of the night he comes in my room and says, "Boy, Momma, we sure had a busy day today. But the best part of the day was spending time with you." Awww...what a big suck up. So, I let him eat some more candy and stay up a little later. Mom's are so easily bribed. :)
There is always one in every family. The one guy that makes people cringe just hearing his name and breathe a sigh of relief when he doesn't travel across many states to come to any family type gathering.
Mine is named Uncle Bill. He is an asshole, and has always been one - which should make it better, but it doesn't. And yesterday, he made the multi-state trip to a family gathering.
Now, just for reference, I am not big on family gatherings with the extended family all that much. Okay, make that "at all". I dig getting together with my brother and his family, but that's about it, esp. since I don't keep up with my cousins, etc. So, imagine my joy when I see my least favorite uncle for the first time in 17 years. It was so overwhelming that I did my "make sure to go around and hug everyone and say Hi to everyone but him" trick. Believe me, I will live just fine the rest of my days not interacting with him ever again. The torment of his shittiness in my teenage years was more than enough to tide me over for the rest of my life.
Anyway, in true asshole fashion, he managed to just ignore everyone and fall asleep in the middle of everything. Have I mentioned how much of an asshole I think he is?
I got to see "Team America: Wold Police" this weekend and laughed far too much. One of the best things about South Park movies are the songs - I know we practically wore out our SP:BLU cd, to the point of scarring our kid while he memorized all of the songs. This one was no different.
From the team's theme song (Fuck Yeah!) to the Broadway show song (Everyone has AIDS!) to the "touching" love song (Pearl Harbor Sucked!), they were all really funny songs. So far I haven't been able to find all of the lyrics online yet, but a partial list is here. (That link has the great "Pussies, Dicks and Assholes" monologues, too). I bet after this opening weekend, I will be able to find a more complete listing. Either way, I am sure I will still get the soundtrack, which doesn't come out until November 2nd, but it will be up on iTunes October 19th.
Matt Damon!
So, yesterday, I got to dig around in the 12 x 30ft box that a lot of my life is packed in to.
I got most of what I was looking for, except for coats, so I will have to make another dive in there later this week. Its weird, but seeing the stuff in there and in the boxes, I can still picture where everything went in the old house.
Man, I gotta get rid of a bunch of shit.
Rule #1 - You do not talk about "Calvin and Hobbes". (via pissresort).
There is going to be an"Opus" movie (based on the great strip "Bloom County"), now that Miramax/Dimension Films has joined with a SF animation company called WildBrain.
There is no release date yet, but the script is due this week and Berkley Breathed has already done animatronic tests and character designs.
This will be so great to see Opus animated again, since the last time was back in 1991 on tv in "A Wish for Wings that Worked". It'll also be neat to take the kiddo to see it, so he can see what those stuffed penguins he has are all about.
