From an interview in this

From an interview in this week's issue of Newsweek with Sean Kinniff, one of the contestants on CBS's new show Survivor: "One day it rained for 38 hours straight." I am thinking that he was out in the sun a bit too long on that island.

Does this make me want to drink Coke® any less? No. Should this guy be fired? No. Is this guy kinda stupid? Yes. But, if he didn't mention, or in anyway refer to Coca-Cola®, then how did the reporter find out where he worked in the first place?

One good thing about having

One good thing about having such a plain page is that I don't have to get all caught up in the whole "link-back" system. If I find a page I like I tend to let the author know by sending them a note complimenting them. If I don't like a page, I don't have to rant about it, I just don't go back there anymore. Simple as that.

I....I mean, my son, has a new favorite toy. We went to Taco Bell the other day to get him some nachos and the toy they gave him was a 4" plastic chihuahua dog sitting on a manhole cover. That sounds really lame, but when you turn it over, it is a Magic 8-Ball® type toy. I love it - I just think that it is really funny that the answers to life's problems can be found just by looking up a dog's butt. (Okay, maybe it IS lame, but it makes me laugh.)

Most everyone I know is out of town for this Memorial Day weekend, which is really cool because it gives me three days to sit on my butt, eating junk food, watching movies, and not feeling a damn bit guilty about not going a visiting anyone. Life is good!

Okay, I am not "that"

Okay, I am not "that" unfit. The child was good at the doctor's, where of course, he did not have a temp (motrin is a wonderful thing). Anyway, slight ear-infection, but the Dr. was cool enough to give me a sample of the antibiotic he recommended, Zithromax, which made my day since that meant I didn't have to go sit at a pharmacy with a sick child waiting for them to fill the prescription. It also made it quicker for me to go home with my son and be "good mommy" all day. Excellent day. He fell asleep around 7:pm and slept for 12 hours, good for him and good for me. He feels much better now.

So I am totally feeling

So I am totally feeling like the unfit-mommy today. Got "the call" from the daycare - temp 102.6, come get him. So, I have to send my mom to go pick him up, since I am unable to go get him right then.

What makes me feel really unfit is the signs that he has been getting a bit sick, but since he is such a healthy kid I didn't see them as that, ie., saying he was dizzy after playing video games - attributed this to motion sickness of these new 360 degree environments, low-grade fever and clear runny nose and cough - allergies. (My kid has the ability to show no signs of being sick at all until the temp spikes and the eardrums burst.) All of this probably adding up to another ear infection. Yuck!! We will know more after the Doctor's appointmet in the morning.

Warning: Whine ahead!! Okay, before

Warning: Whine ahead!!

Okay, before I started this blog, I didn't know so many great blogs were out there. I would just randomly surf around and find really silly and sometimes interesting sites that I would bore my husband and friends with on a fairly regular basis. They had online journals that they would post their thoughts and occasionally some of my links on. So, I thought, "Hey, let's quit bugging them and get your own post, and if they wanna see what you have been doing, they can come check it out". Seemed logical, and didn't take much arm twisting to convince my husband that this was something that would make his life easier, and he wouldn't have to humor me so much. And being a designer, I thought he could make something nice for me.

Well, a few things have happened since I started this blog. First, I am having a hard time finding good links anymore. I know part of this is because I have started reading so many good blogs and following the links they have found, I don't have time, energy, inclination, or whatever to really search. And I do not want to be a blog that only links around to everyone else, like, "that was cool, Jenn" or "i saw that too, Cam".

Kellea made a good point in her blog from today, the 21st, (see there I go already) "A quote from a friend of mine today, "It's not weblogging.. it's some sort of sick competition going on. A competition for hits, links, friends, popularity." and unfortunately it's a sad truth." She posts this in reference to why she is shutting down her site.
Second, I have realized that I need to use this space for me, and for whatever the hell I want to put up here. I have no idea how to do html, nor do I want to, so if this site is plain until my husband gets a chance to make something nice for me with everything I wanna add, then so be it. It is supposed to be about the content and not what it looks like. Guess it is the pretty girl vs the good personality girl thing. Oh well. There are beautiful sites out there, but also this constant need to update them. Heh, with mine, there is nothing to change, so I can only go up from here. So, if I feel like talking about my kids stinky feet and not posting any links for a week, then so be it.

Wow, ok, I am done now.

I have tried not to get too personal on this yet because I don't know how much I want to reveal, but I have to let a little out as explanation to the lack of posts. Hopefully I will get back in the right frame of mind quickly.

Thanks for the notes.

In this month's Mode magazine's

In this month's Mode magazine's "things to do this month", it listed "read a book from your childhood". I thought that would be a fun thing to do so I headed down to the local Barnes & Noble and picked up Madeline L'Engle's "A Wrinkle in Time". This was the first book in a series of sci-fi books for teens and the lead character was a girl, which was a great example for the pre-teen girl that I was.
Another great girl lead was, of course, Nancy Drew. I figured after I finished the "Wrinkle" series, I would start in on the Nancy Drew series. Well, thanks to NancyDrew.com I can get reaquainted with her online. There are online episodes with periodic updates to keep your attention, like an electronic radio show, and to keep you on the edge of your seat until next time - even though we already know that Nancy and her friends will always save the day. Sometimes it is a hoot to remember what it is like to be a kid again.

I have got to know

I have got to know who came up the rule that says that any celebration must have a dish of party mints (or sometimes called after-dinner mints) and mixed nuts. Those two dishes seem to be at any shower, reception, graduation, or wedding I have been to, and noone every seems thrilled to eat either of them. I mean, I see people put a little spoonful on their plate to be nice, but noone is really going,"Ooh, look, party mints. I am sooo glad they have some of those here, because I was really craving some of that." So why are they still there? I guess some traditions are just too hard to break.

Saw "Gladiator" tonight. I am soooo stoked - this movie was excellent. Now, I like Russell Crowe, especially in L.A. Confidential, but this totally tops that. This one will make him star. Excellent movie to start the summer movies extravaganza. Next up, I cannot wait for "Mission Impossible".

I prolly shoulda clarified what type of links I was talking about last night. I don't care about the articles that everyone takes from mags and things, I was talking about the obscure links that take some effort to find. 'Course, it doesn't take much effort if they are just lifted, eh? K, I am done now.

Now I am new to

Now I am new to this blogging thing, but I have seen and learned a few things. For one thing, most of the good blogs give credit when they use someone's link (heck, even most of the bad ones do, too) and that's cool, in my opinion. What bugs me is when someone lifts your links and then doesn't give a shout back.
I mean, I am flattered that my links have been deemed good enough to lift, but, hey, give me a little credit. Hell, one of the most basic things you learn in High School is when you write something, you give credit to the source (can you say 'bibliography'?). Sorry, for the rant, it just made me very mad last night. Am I right to be mad, or is it just part of the blogging game? Let me know what you think, especially if you have a log that has been lifted from.

Ya know, I realized after

Ya know, I realized after I said "girls" in an earlier post that some people in weblog land are being waaaaay too sensitive. There has been so much negative feedback to Mark's webgirl post that it was refreshing to see a somewhat straightforward interpretation by Wendell.

{WARNING: RANT AHEAD!!} I for one am not offended by the use of the word "girl". I use it as a sign of affection and endearment. Woman(women) seems too adult, and I prefer to not be an adult as long as I can (even with the big 30 looming). And I absolutely hate the term "grrl". Gimme a break, that sounds so agressive. I mean, I know some women feel like they are breaking into an old boy's school here on the net and feel the need to prove something, but that is just not me - notice the name of the site is "that other GIRL", and that's the way I like it. {getting off of soapbox now}.

Posted by thatothrgirl at 10:57 PM

I know that at one

I know that at one time or another, we have all heard a teacher say, "There are no stupid questions". Well,
some people took those words to heart when they went searching on the web. Kev has made a list of some of
the strange and stupid queries that he saw on Webcrawler's Search Voyeur - which was taken down in
mid-March '00.

But, never fear, your nosiness can be satisified at What People Search For. There are several engines to search from that have almost instant updates on all of the Pokemon™, Britney Spears, and porn (and their combinations thereof) searches. Kinda fun to check in and see what other people are interested in.
